MO insurance companies to provide benefits for chiropractic care

8. I feel like I should be exercising, but every time I start, I seem to always end up hurting myself within 2-3 weeks. Am I doing something wrong?

A. Injuries from exercising can be caused by many things. Some of the most common reasons include the following: structural instability and inflammation making the tissues too weak to benefit from exercise (see previous FAQ), wrong type of exercise for you, exercising too strenuously too soon, not drinking enough water while exercising, not enough pre- and post-stretching, excess lactic acid buildup in the muscles, magnesium deficiency, and not paying attention to correct positioning while exercising. And sometimes several factors may be involved simultaneously. It usually takes diligence and patience to identify the reasons for repeated injuries from exercise. Until then, it's recommended to go very slowly with exercise.

9. I've worn plastic orthotics in my shoes for several years now, but you recommend wearing only flexible orthotics. Why?

A. Rigid, or non-flexible, orthotics made from plastic, metal or wood may be helpful for foot pain, but they neutralize the function of the three arches of the foot. These arches are designed to absorb the shock and impact of being on your feet all day long. With rigid orthotics, this shock and impact is no longer absorbed by the arches of your feet, but instead is absorbed into your body. Over time, this repeated shock and impact frequently contributes to pain and eventual degeneration of your low back, neck, spinal discs, knees, hip joints, and other joints of your body. If you are currently wearing rigid orthotics and are experiencing any problem in the above areas, we highly recommend switching to flexible orthotics, to allow your feet to once again absorb the shock and impact that they were designed to do.

10. A friend told me that when she started wearing flexible orthotics, the arthritis pain in her body dramatically decreased. How is that possible?

A. Your feet are the foundation of support for your pelvis and spine. They also support the entire weight of your body, provide balance, absorb heel-strike-shock, and provide the necessary stability to perform daily activities. An imbalance in the structure or function of your feet can transmit the stress of that imbalance upward into your body. Your feet, ankles, knees, hip joints, pelvis, spine, shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers can all be affected by an imbalance in your feet, because every part of your body is inter-connected to every other part. The impact of repeated shock and stress from an imbalance in your feet gets absorbed primarily into your joints and spinal discs. Over time, deterioration often starts in these areas. Coupled with structural misalignment that can also be caused by an imbalance in your feet, the wear and tear on your joints and spinal discs can be excessive. One long-term result of this can be arthritis.

Correcting the imbalance in your feet with flexible orthotics can immediately start to decrease the wear and tear on your joints and spinal discs by helping to re-align your structure and decrease the impact of shock and stress into your body. This could easily lead to a decrease in joint or arthritic pain.

11. Could flexible orthotics or shoe inserts help chronic knee pain?

A.Two of the most common causes of chronic knee pain are an imbalance in the structure and function of the feet, and structural misalignment of the pelvis. Pelvic misalignment causes a functional short leg, which causes that leg to be shorter than the other one until the pelvis is re-aligned.

Structural or functional imbalance of the feet, and a functional short leg caused by pelvic misalignment, often affect the knee joints first, and chronic knee pain is often the result. I feel that both of these reasons are why knee injuries occur so frequently in sports, too. Getting fitted for flexible orthotics or shoe inserts can restore structural and functional balance of the feet, and can also help in the re-alignment of the pelvis. This in turn can help to correct the imbalance and misalignment of the knee joints. And, if corrected before there is irreversible deterioration of the knee joints, most chronic knee pain can be helped and, I feel, most knee surgeries could be avoided.

12. I've never experienced Vibrational Healing Techniques. Can you tell me when they would be helpful?

A. Since Vibrational Healing works at the invisible, or vibrational, level, Vibrational Healing Techniques can enhance any other alternative health care technique being utilized. Most alternative health care techniques focus on the physical level, which is where most people seem to first notice symptoms appearing. But receiving Vibrational Healing Techniques in conjunction with other alternative health care can greatly enhance the power and effectiveness of any other treatment you receive, because they focus on the vibrational level, which is where all healing begins.

The art of Vibrational Healing is a relatively unfamiliar healing art to many people, but a vast amount of research has documented the validity and power of this invisible world. People such as Albert Einstein, Rupert Sheldrake, David Hawkins, David Bohm and Thomas Bearden have all researched and documented the immense power available from the vibrational world. In essence, Vibrational Healing Techniques can always be potentially helpful in an alternative treatment program.
